COX’S BAZAR, April 11 (V7N) –Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered 200,000 pieces of Burmese yaba worth about Tk 60 million during a raid in Ramu, Cox's Bazar. The recovered yaba pills were seized without an owner. According to BGB sources, the Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) under the Ramu sector of Cox's Bazar region has been conducting regular raids to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking in addition to border security.
On Saturday (April 11) at around 1 pm, a special operation was carried out by setting up a temporary check post in the Tulabagan area of Khuniapalong Union, Ramur, on the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway based on secret information.
At that time, a man was coming towards the checkpost carrying a sack on his head. Sensing the presence of BGB members from a distance, he dropped the sack and quickly fled. Later, the patrol team searched the sack in the presence of two local witnesses and recovered 200,000 pieces of Yaba hidden in a specially designed container.
The BGB said the estimated market value of the recovered Yaba is around 60 million taka.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, commander of Ramu Battalion (30 BGB), said, "A huge amount of Yaba has been recovered in this operation conducted on the basis of secret information. BGB is always active in preventing drug smuggling in the border areas and such operations will continue." He added that the BGB's operation is continuing to identify the person involved in the incident and bring him under the law.
