A devastating fire has ravaged Rohingya Camp Number 13 in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, leaving destruction in its wake. Approximately two hundred houses have been reduced to ashes in the inferno. While the identities of the injured remain undisclosed, several individuals have reportedly sustained injuries.

The blaze erupted on Saturday afternoon, around one o'clock, engulfing houses in blocks D-1, D-2, and D-3 of Tajnimarkhola No. 13 Rohingya camp. Eyewitnesses observed that four local houses were also caught in the blaze.

Affected Rohingya and local residents now face dire conditions, exposed to the elements with their homes destroyed.

Responding swiftly, nine units of the fire service were deployed to battle the flames, successfully gaining control after an arduous one and a half hours. Collaboration between APBn, BGB, police, and the army was evident as they worked tirelessly to manage the chaotic situation.

Majhi Bashir, a resident of D-1 Block, expressed disbelief at the fire's origin, lamenting the complete destruction of all houses in his block. Details on the injured remain scarce.

Zahid Hossain, the head of D-2 Block, recounted salvaging belongings amid the sudden onset of the fire, expressing shock at its rapid spread.

Initial reports suggest the fire may have been sparked by a cooking mishap in D-1 Block, where water spilled into oil, leading to a catastrophic chain reaction.

Confirming the severity of the incident, Officer-in-Charge Shamim Hossain of Ukhiya police station assured the public of law enforcement's efforts to maintain order and control the situation.

Deputy Assistant Director Atish Chakma of Cox's Bazar Fire Service reported the successful containment of the fire within ninety minutes, thanks to the combined efforts of nine units from Ramu and Ukhiya fire services.

Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanvir Hossain pledged government assistance, promising compensation for affected locals after assessing the extent of damage to their homes.

This tragic event echoes a similar incident just a week ago on May 24, when another fire swept through the same camp, destroying at least 300 houses. The Rohingya families affected continue to endure untold hardship in the aftermath. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
