Tangail, July 9 (V7N)- In several upazilas of Tangail district, homes, markets, mosques, temples, agricultural lands, and other structures have been submerged by floodwaters. As a result, 36,000 people in the remote char areas are trapped in water. The overall flood situation in the district remains unchanged in some areas, while it has worsened in others. Extensive residential areas, markets, and agricultural lands in several upazilas of the district are still submerged by floodwaters.

On Monday (July 8), it was reported by the Tangail Water Development Board that although the water levels of the Jhinai and Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers have slightly decreased, the water levels of all other rivers continue to rise. The water level of the Jhinai River at the Jokarchar point has decreased by 3 centimeters but is still 97 centimeters above the danger level. The water level of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna River at the Porabari point has decreased by 3 centimeters but is still 33 centimeters above the danger level. The water level of the Dhaleshwari River at the Elasin point has increased by 5 centimeters and is flowing 24 centimeters above the danger level.

Additionally, the water level of the Fotikjani River at the Nalchapa Bridge point has increased by 17 centimeters, the water level of the Bangshai River at the Kauljani point has increased by 8 centimeters, the water level at the Mirzapur point has increased by 9 centimeters, and the water level at the Madhupur point has increased by 12 centimeters.

Several residents of Bhuyapur upazila, including Forman and Saiful, mentioned, "We are people living by the Jamuna River. Every year, we have to fight with the Jamuna River. This year's flood has caused us significant damage. The current of the floodwaters has partially destroyed some of our yards. We have been trapped in water for five to seven days."

Regarding this, District Commissioner Md. Kaysarul Islam stated that 36,000 people are trapped in the water in the district. In the flood-affected areas, humanitarian aid from the Honorable Prime Minister, including packets weighing 14.5 kilograms containing rice, lentils, oil, sugar, and spices, as well as water purification tablets and water containers, have been distributed.
