Following the tumultuous days of the Language Movement, there arose a pressing need for a dedicated institution to safeguard and promote the Bangla language. In response, the Bangla Academy was founded in 1955 at the official residence of the then Prime Minister of East Pakistan, Burdwan House. Over the decades, it has become a cornerstone of the nation’s cultural identity.

The Academy’s mission is deeply intertwined with national consciousness. Through the preservation, research, and development of indigenous culture, history, heritage, the values of the Liberation War, and contemporary arts and literature, the Academy has continuously worked to elevate the nation’s intellectual and cultural standards.

Over its 70-year journey, Bangla Academy has evolved into a leading center for language and literary research, publications, dictionary compilation, collection of folk culture, educational programs, and national literary festivals. It has played an unwavering role in nurturing the cultural growth of the Bengali people, passing this legacy from generation to generation.
