Dhaka, Oct 04 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to expedite construction of the Inner Circular Road project to help ease traffic congestion in the capital.

He issued the directive on Sunday while chairing a meeting at the Prime Minister's Office under the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat to review progress on the project.

The prime minister instructed the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Local Government Division to jointly review the existing project plan and take steps to accelerate construction.

Tarique stressed the need to identify and remove obstacles to the project's implementation as quickly as possible. He also called for effective coordination among the agencies involved.

He directed the authorities to establish a realistic timeframe for completing the project and ensure visible progress at the earliest possible stage.

The Inner Circular Road is part of broader government efforts to improve traffic movement in Dhaka and reduce pressure on the city's existing road network.

Road Transport and Bridges and Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, and State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Habibur Rashid attended the meeting.

Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton were also present, along with senior officials from the relevant ministries and government departments.

The government has been reviewing the circular road project alongside other transport initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and addressing Dhaka's long-standing traffic congestion.
