Sylhet, Sept 14 (V7N) – Shilpangan Sylhet, a renowned cultural hub, has been fostering dance and cultural practices for over 24 years since its founding on January 1, 2000, by eminent dance artist Shree Shyamal Ghosh. Despite numerous challenges, the institution has flourished as a center for nurturing and promoting traditional and modern dance forms in Sylhet.
Shree Shyamal Ghosh, founder and director of Shilpangan, serves as the elected president of the Bangladesh Dance Artists’ Association Sylhet Division and is also an enlisted performer at Bangladesh Television (BTV). Additionally, he was a dance judge in the celebrated competition “Notun Kuri.” Under his leadership, Shilpangan achieved national recognition, winning first place in dance at the Asian Games 2010 competitions and in the National Education Week.
Located in Lamabazar, Sylhet, Shilpangan has trained thousands of children, teenagers, and youths in various dance forms, including Manipuri dance and tea-leaf dance. Its performers frequently showcase their talents at national programs, hotels, resorts, and cultural events, gaining widespread acclaim. The institution has also performed before international guests from countries such as Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom, leaving lasting impressions with their vibrant cultural presentations.
Shilpangan holds dance training sessions twice weekly, with active participation from both boys and girls. Shree Shyamal Ghosh emphasized that with greater government and private patronage, Shilpangan could play an even more significant role in preserving and promoting culture in Sylhet.
On Saturday, September 13, several students, including Deepak, Arpa Kopali, Papia, and young performer Shuddha, were seen participating in a training session at Shilpangan Sylhet. The trainees shared that the institution has enabled them to learn diverse dance styles and perform in numerous cultural events.
