Dhaka, Jan 20 (V7N) — The decision to abolish the freedom fighter quota in MBBS admission exams is a state decision, not one made by the Ministry of Health, said Professor Dr Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the interim government.
He made this statement on Monday while speaking to journalists following an event at a hotel in the capital.
He said: "You are aware that in light of the movement against the quota system, the court ruling primarily replaced the provision of grandchildren with children for the next generation. Therefore, regarding admission under the quota, this is a matter of principle. The MBBS admission exam was conducted as per existing laws and regulations. Nonetheless, it will still undergo scrutiny."
Dr Sayedur Rahman said: "Among these 193 individuals, it would be quite unusual for someone aged 67-68, who is unlikely to have children. If any discrepancies are identified, they will be addressed.
"The decision on whether the primary quota will remain in the MBBS exam is not under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health; it is a state decision. Verification will take place on the 27th, 28th, and 29th of January," he added.
