DHAKA, March 28, (V7N) – Eid-ul-Fitr holidaymakers are reaching their destinations with ease this year, thanks to long holidays and effective government measures that have alleviated common travel woes. As the biggest religious festival for Muslims approaches, many people are traveling by road, rail, and waterways to join their families, and the usual hassle of extra charges, traffic congestion, and schedule delays seems to have been minimized.
Akhi Akhter, a passenger aboard the Lalmoni Express train to Lalmonirhat, spoke to BSS about her smooth journey from Kamalapur Railway Station. Unlike previous years, when passengers often struggled for space and faced overcrowded trains, this year, Akhter enjoyed a comfortable and secure seat. She attributed her pleasant experience to the newly opened railway bridge over the Jamuna River, which significantly reduced the travel time. "The train crossed the bridge in a matter of minutes, a stark contrast to the long delays experienced in past years," she said.
At Kamalapur station, the scene was one of organized, timely departures, with strict security checks ensuring only ticketed passengers were allowed onto the platforms. The trains were punctual, and passengers were able to wait in comfort, with no issues of overcrowding.
At Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals, while there were crowds of passengers, the overall experience remained hassle-free. No arguments over extra fares were observed, as mobile courts and law enforcement officers kept the situation under control. BRTA's mobile courts took swift action against any reports of fare violations, ensuring smooth operations at the terminals. Passengers like Masud Rana, traveling to Sherpur, were able to board buses on time without paying extra fares, a sharp contrast to the usual chaotic travel atmosphere during Eid.
The Sadarghat launch terminal also saw smooth operations with launches departing on time and at regular fares. Despite some crowding, the security personnel remained vigilant, ensuring the safety of passengers. Aman Ullah, heading to Barguna, appreciated the comfortable and enjoyable journey by launch, noting that although buses may be faster, the launch was a much more relaxed way to travel home.
Dhaka Railway Station Manager Md. Shahadat Hossain expressed satisfaction with the safe and timely rail services, reporting that all trains were running on schedule. He emphasized the increased security at stations, including strict ticket checks and surveillance, to maintain order and ensure passengers' safety throughout their journey.
