DHAKA, March 28, (V7N) – A government committee has suggested dismissing 6,681 cases that were allegedly filed with political intent to harass opposition leaders, activists, and innocent individuals.
The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs recently disclosed this information on its official website. The recommendations were made during nine meetings of the ministry-level committee, which is headed by Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul and was formed to assess and propose the withdrawal of such cases.
To facilitate this process, the Ministry of Home Affairs established two separate review bodies—one at the district level and another at the ministerial level—to identify and assess cases driven by political retaliation. The ministry-level committee consists of senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law, while the district-level committee is overseen by the district magistrate, along with law enforcement officials and public prosecutors.
This initiative is part of an effort to uphold justice and prevent the misuse of legal proceedings for political purposes.
