DHAKA, April 6, (V7N) - Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has underscored the importance of united efforts at both local and global levels to enhance maternal and child health, as the country prepares to observe World Health Day tomorrow.

In a message marking the day, Prof. Yunus said, “More action programmes are needed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate which remains a major challenge.” He called for strengthened collaboration between national and international stakeholders to address the issue.

The theme for this year’s World Health Day is “Healthy beginning, hopeful futures,” while in Bangladesh, the local theme has been set as “Safe birth for bright future.” Prof. Yunus praised the message as “appropriate and timely,” reflecting the nation’s priorities.

Highlighting ongoing efforts, he noted that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, along with private sector and development partners, are implementing various programmes aimed at ensuring maternal and child health. “These partners are working shoulder to shoulder with the government,” he said.

Prof. Yunus also emphasized the need to sustain the success of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, which include universal access to health services. He mentioned that the World Health Organization has also taken a special initiative this year focused on maternal and child health.

He concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare for women and children. “The interim government formed after the mass uprising of 2024 is committed to build Bangladesh as a safe and respected nation in the world,” he said, wishing success to all programmes of the day.
