CHATTOGRAM, April 23, (V7N) – Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury reaffirmed today that the government is intensifying efforts to improve law and order across the country, with particular focus on the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) and its adjacent plain lands.
Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting with officials from the administration and law enforcement agencies at the Chattogram Circuit House, the adviser said the entire border region remains secure, despite recent concerns over Arakan Army activity.
He dismissed a viral video allegedly showing Arakan Army members celebrating the Sangrai festival inside Bangladesh, calling it misleading and likely fabricated on platforms like TikTok. “It’s not at all true,” he stated, though he acknowledged some challenges along the Myanmar border.
Jahangir Alam emphasized that joint forces remain active, and credited inter-agency cooperation for the improved security environment in the CHT, once plagued by landmine incidents and poor communication networks. Tourist spots like Sajek now see regular visitors, he noted, reflecting the safer situation.
On recent killings in Raozan upazila, he admitted that criminals often escape into remote hilly areas, complicating operations. He confirmed that the Chattogram Range DIG and senior police officials have been directed to identify and arrest those responsible.
The adviser urged media outlets to present factual reports to avoid panic and support government efforts to ensure peace. He also discussed environmental issues like hill cutting, promising effective measures based on regional needs in Fatikchari, Rangunia, Patiya, and nearby areas.
