DHAKA, Feb 16, 2026 (V7N) - The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting online VAT returns for the January 2026 tax period until February 22, citing public interest.

Officials said the extension was necessary due to prolonged government holidays surrounding Holy Shab-e-Barat and the 13th National Parliamentary election, which disrupted business operations and compliance activities.

Taxpayers also faced difficulties on February 15 when the OTP server of the e-Challan system went down, preventing timely submissions.

The NBR exercised its authority under Section 64 (1A) of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, to grant the extension, ensuring businesses are not penalised for delays beyond their control.

“This decision will help taxpayers complete the submission process smoothly after disruptions linked to holidays and technical issues,” officials said.

The revenue authority urged VAT-registered entities to use the extended period responsibly and submit their January returns within the new timeframe to avoid penalties and ensure compliance.
