Dhaka, April 24, (V7N) - A Dhaka court today granted a fresh four-day remand for the driver and caretaker of Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, the former defense and security adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with a murder case.

The accused, driver Md Mahidul Islam (42) and caretaker Md Chan Mia (46), were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court following the completion of their initial four-day remand. While the investigation officer requested an additional seven days for further interrogation, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Biruni Mir approved a four-day extension for each.

The legal action stems from the killing of businessman Abdul Wadud, who was fatally shot on the afternoon of July 19, 2024, in the Nilkhet area during the anti-discrimination student movement. The case, filed at New Market Police Station by the victim’s brother-in-law, Abdur Rob, names 130 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former minister Obaidul Quader.

Mahidul Islam was apprehended in Thakurgaon and Chan Mia in the capital's Bhashantek area on April 19. They were first placed on a four-day remand by Magistrate Didarul Alam on April 20. The investigation continues as authorities look into the involvement of high-profile staffers in the events of the July 2024 uprising.
