Aug 03, (V7N) -Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson and Adviser Mahdi Amin has described the Prime Minister Gold Cup tournament as a potential landmark in Bangladesh's education and sports landscape, vowing extensive publicity, effective coordination, and rigorous monitoring from start to finish.
Speaking at a meeting of the tournament's National Standing Committee at the Ministry of Education on Monday, Amin noted that previous editions saw participation from about 22 lakh primary-level and over 11 lakh secondary-level students nationwide. However, he acknowledged shortcomings in publicity and branding, which this year's edition aims to overcome.
"One of our main goals is to strengthen campaign and public relations activities, so that this event gets due importance in every media and common people can get involved," he said.
Amin said a strong committee—including relevant ministers, state ministers, and senior officials—has been formed to oversee management, campaign, and coordination, ensuring more effective planning and implementation.
The government plans to transform the tournament into a national festival, with a World Cup-style opening ceremony featuring creative events, a theme song, and student participation. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to attend both the opening and final stages.
The event will launch outside Dhaka to ensure equal involvement from students across the country. Amin added that the Prime Minister himself chose the tournament's name, and the aim is to make it a unique national event blending education, culture, and sports for future generations.
Emphasis has also been placed on increasing local-level involvement, including MPs encouraging students in their constituencies. Ministries of Information, Youth and Sports, Local Government, and others will coordinate to ensure success.
"Through coordinated efforts from the grassroots to the national level, the Prime Minister's Gold Cup will be made into a quality event, which will also be an example for future national programmes," he said. Secretaries and officials from concerned ministries attended the meeting.
