Bogura, Aug 8 (V7N) - Industries Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has said the government is working to raise the contribution of micro, cottage, small, and medium enterprises (CMSMEs) to Bangladesh's economy to more than 60 percent, which would increase people's participation in the economy, create employment, and reduce income inequality.

Speaking at a view exchange meeting with industrialists and a cheque distribution ceremony at BSCIC District Office in Bogura, the minister said CMSMEs currently account for around 36 percent of GDP. "If this contribution exceeds 60 percent, the lifeblood of the economy will become more vibrant. At the same time, income inequality will decline, as more people will get the opportunity to participate directly in economic activities," he said.

He added that the goal is to expand the number of entrepreneurs in CMSMEs on a large scale so that the benefits of economic growth are more widely distributed.

On the light engineering and leather sectors, the minister said an initiative has been taken to establish a training centre to enhance design and technical skills. The physical infrastructure has already been completed, and equipment will now be installed. An internationally reputed organization—possibly from Italy, Germany, or other European countries—may be entrusted with operating the centre.

Highlighting the potential of Bogura's light engineering industry, he also noted Saidpur as a promising industrial hub due to its railway junction and geographic location, with plans to bring entrepreneurs from the region to the training centre.

Speaking on industrial financing, Muktadir said it is not possible to operate low-capital businesses at interest rates of 13-14 percent, and the government is taking various measures to reduce the cost of funds. On energy supply, he acknowledged past complexities cannot be resolved overnight but assured that realistic planning and effective implementation are underway. He also urged entrepreneurs to come forward with energy-independent projects, with government logistical support.

BSCIC Chairman Benjir Ahmed delivered the welcome address. Bogura-6 MP Md Rezaul Karim Badsha, Bogura-5 MP Golam Mohammad Siraj, Bogura-7 MP Morshed Milton, and women entrepreneur Shamsun Nahar Swarna also spoke. The minister later distributed loan cheques among entrepreneurs.
