Tangail, Aug 7 (V7N) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has said newspapers act as the mirror of a country, highlighting societal shortcomings and anomalies while guiding people on the right path.
He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural and publication ceremony of the weekly newspaper "Samay Taranga" at the Tangail Press Club this afternoon.
"Along with highlighting various shortcomings and anomalies in society, newspapers play an important role in guiding people on the right path and managing society beautifully and systematically," he said. He added that any unethical practices in journalism must be avoided.
On press freedom, the state minister said, "We will never obstruct the democratic process. We will not interfere in anyone's freedom. We will extend our fullest cooperation to journalists."
Weekly "Samay Taranga" Editor and Publisher Md Rownak Ali chaired the event. District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shahin, former Member Secretary of District BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, Sadar Upazila BNP President Azgar Ali, and Tangail Press Club General Secretary Kazi Zakerul Mowla were also present.
