Jahangirnagar University, Aug 7 (V7N)- Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee has said the government is working on expediting the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan and the Padma Barrage project to boost regional development and strengthen the country's water resources management.
Speaking as chief guest at a doa and discussion meeting marking the second anniversary of the July Uprising-2024 at Jahangirnagar University last night, the minister said work on the Padma Barrage project had already been officially launched and its visible progress would be seen soon.
"Alongside the Teesta project, we have already taken the decision to construct the Padma Barrage. The work has formally begun and people will witness its visible progress very soon," he said.
Responding to a question from a campus reporter regarding the early implementation of the Teesta Master Plan, he said although the project had long been known as the Teesta Master Plan, little progress had been made on necessary studies and technical assistance before the current government assumed office. He said the government had initiated the required work in line with its commitments and the long-standing aspirations of people living along the Teesta basin.
"We will complete the necessary studies very soon and then move forward with visible implementation of the project for the welfare of the Teesta basin people, the region, and the country's economic transformation," he added.
The programme was held at the university's Jannatul Ferdous Senate Building with JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan in the chair. Teachers, students, university officials, family members of July martyrs, and invited guests attended.
