Cox's Bazar, Aug 7 (V7N) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government is moving forward with various plans to harness the potential of the Blue Economy, adding that substantial revenue could be generated if marine resources and seaports are utilized properly.
He made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Cox's Bazar Development Authority (CDA) Residential Flat Development Project-1 as chief guest in Cox's Bazar.
The minister said the government is working to further enrich Cox's Bazar's tourism industry and elevate it to international standards. "Country's economy could benefit significantly by fully realizing the district's immense tourism potential," he added.
He stressed that tourism cannot be limited to high-rise buildings alone, emphasizing the need for nature preservation and spreading activities across the entire 100-kilometer stretch of Cox's Bazar Sea beach. He also called for promoting Cox's Bazar's beauty globally to attract travelers.
The minister announced that the government has planned to establish a Marine University in Cox's Bazar to expand opportunities for higher education and marine research. "Once implemented, the initiative will open a new horizon for marine education, research, and the development of skilled human resources," he added.
Later, Salahuddin laid the foundation stone of the new building of the 500-bed Cox's Bazar Medical College Hospital.
Lawmakers Shahjahan Chowdhury, Alamgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid, and Shamima Ara Swapna, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan, Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman, Chairman of the Cox's Bazar Development Authority, and representatives of various government departments were present.
