Dhaka, Aug 8 (V7N) - Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has described the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) as a shining example of humanity and professional excellence, expressing confidence that the organization will continue to stand by the people while promoting doctors' welfare and improving healthcare.
"I believe that, upholding its tradition, professional competence, and humanitarian commitment, DAB will continue to play an important role in promoting doctors' welfare, improving the quality of healthcare, and standing by the people," she said while addressing a doctors' rally as special guest at the LD Hall of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, marking DAB's 37th founding anniversary.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the programme as chief guest, with DAB President Professor Dr Harun Al Rashid in the chair.
At the outset of her speech, Zubaida Rahman paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and extended greetings to DAB members and the country's medical community.
Earlier, the Prime Minister and Dr Zubaida Rahman planted neem and arjun saplings on the LD Hall premises and formally inaugurated the rally by hoisting the national and party flags and releasing balloons and pigeons.
DAB leaders and doctors from different parts of the country attended the gathering. BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain, Prime Minister's Adviser Ismail Zabihullah, State Minister for Health Dr. M A Muhit, DAB Secretary General Dr Md Zahirul Islam Shakil, and senior PMO officials were also present.
