Bogura, Aug 22 (V7N) – State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today said true democracy now prevails in the country, citing the recent presidential election held through a democratic process as a major testament to the practice and strengthening of democracy.
He made the remarks while laying the foundation stone of the Mokamtola Union Parishad office in Mokamtola upazila of Bogura and distributing relief materials among families affected by natural disasters.
He thanked and expressed gratitude to the opposition party for participating in the presidential election, saying such participation demonstrated political tolerance and a commitment to democratic norms.
Mir Shahe Alam further said Almighty Allah alone is the giver of honour and can honour anyone at any time and can also take that honour away. Therefore, no politician should be arrogant, he said, adding that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is a modest and gentlemanly politician without arrogance.
"He is running the country responsibly. The welfare of the people and the development of the country are the main objectives of his politics," he said.
The state minister said democracy is not limited to holding elections; its true beauty is manifested through respect for people's opinions, political tolerance and ensuring the participation of all.
Local public representatives, political leaders, administrative officials and people from various professions attended the programme. Later, the state minister distributed relief materials among families affected by natural disasters and inspected development activities at the Mokamtola Union Jame Mosque and Mokamtola playground.
