Lalmonirhat, Oct 1 (V7N) – Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today said construction of a modern multipurpose market at Barabari Bazar was part of his commitment and hoped that the market would promote local trade and bring positive changes to market management.

"Planned implementation of the project could create opportunities to expand local trade and bring positive changes to market management. The modern market was being envisioned not merely as a place for buying and selling, but also as an integrated centre for expanding local trade and commerce, marketing agricultural products, creating business opportunities for small-scale and women entrepreneurs, and providing essential commercial facilities," he said.

The minister made the comment after visiting the proposed site for constructing the modern multipurpose market at Barabari Bazar in Sadar upazila.

Dulu said that the market's design could take into account the need for shops and commercial spaces, facilities for storing and marketing agricultural products, parking, clean and hygienic sanitation, security, and fire safety measures.

During the inspection, Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila LGED Upazila Engineer Md Insaf ul Haque Sarker and Sub-Assistant Engineer Md Shahin Alam, Barabari Union Parishad Chairman Nazmul Huda Limon, Barabari Bazar Traders' Association President Sajedul Islam Saje, General Secretary Md Taj Uddin Ahmed Taju, members of the market committee, and district and upazila BNP leaders were present.

The initiative is part of the government's efforts to modernise rural markets and improve trading infrastructure across the country. Modern multipurpose markets are designed to provide better facilities for traders and consumers, promote agricultural marketing, and create opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs, including women. The government has been implementing various infrastructure projects to boost rural economic activities and improve the quality of life for local communities.
