Dhaka, Oct 13 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has remarked that despite the change in government, the fate of the people remains the same. Speaking at a discussion meeting organized by BNP on the occasion of Disaster Mitigation Day at the National Press Club on Sunday afternoon, he expressed disappointment over the lack of tangible change in the lives of citizens.

“The government has changed. You and I are still where we were. The fate of the people hasn’t changed. Everything is the same, only Sheikh Hasina is no longer in power,” said Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, pointing out continuity in systemic issues despite the political transition.

He criticized the continued legal troubles faced by BNP leaders and activists, saying, "We still have to appear in court for cases filed during the Awami League era. The question is, why do we still have to suffer? That is why I said the government remains the same—it hasn’t truly changed."

Addressing the interim government, Gayeshwar stated that if it fails, the nation will suffer. He pledged BNP’s cooperation, saying, “We will help all the way. Right now, 90 percent of people are ready for elections. The nation has waited 16 years. So, the interim government must clearly inform the people when the elections will be held.”

He also emphasized the need for a stronger economy and better governance, remarking, “Our economy is weak compared to other countries. If you don’t work with the people, you can’t make the administration work effectively. Involving the people is essential.”

The BNP leader’s comments reflect the party’s ongoing demand for timely elections and a transparent electoral process to ensure a legitimate and functional government.
