Dhaka, Oct 20 (V7N) – BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu emphasized the necessity for the interim government to expedite essential state reforms to guarantee that the upcoming national elections occur within a specified timeline. "We have supported this government for its positive initiatives. Reforms are essential to ensure a fair election, but they must be finalized within a clear timeframe," he stated.
During a discussion meeting in the capital, Dudu asserted that an elected government is crucial for fostering positive developments and effective governance. "The current government comprises individuals from various professions united to achieve good outcomes. While discussing elections, it doesn't imply they need to happen immediately; however, there must be a well-defined timeline. This is why we have proposed an election roadmap," he explained.
The event, titled 'National Elections, Civic Thoughts, National Dialogue,' was organized by the Jatiyatabadi Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolan at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).
As a former president of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Dudu also called on the interim government and democratic factions to stay alert, citing ongoing conspiracies, both domestic and foreign, aimed at inciting chaos and reinstating fascist elements.
He accused a particular vested interest group of trying to tarnish the reputation of the BNP and its leaders, Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman. "I warn them that if they seek to undermine the BNP's role, fascism will prevail. Suppressing the BNP equates to embracing fascism," he cautioned.
Dudu further urged pro-democracy political parties to unite for the sake of democracy and public welfare. He claimed that the "head of fascism," Sheikh Hasina, along with her ministers and MPs, has left the country, while her loyalists in the administration remain unchanged.
He pointed out that secretaries promoted during Hasina's tenure continue to hold their positions, with no reforms within the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). "The framework established by Sheikh Hasina largely persists. A distinction must be made between the previous government and the current one, just as we differentiate between fascism and democracy. The former was fascist, while the current government should be democratic," he remarked.
Dudu also expressed disappointment that the government has not yet dismantled the Awami Syndicate that dominates essential goods. "Where is the change? This syndicate needs to be broken down. Market syndicates cannot be allowed to exist," he concluded.
