Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has cautioned the interim government against making any "hasty or arbitrary" decisions regarding the potential removal of President M Shahabuddin. Alamgir expressed concerns over actions that could create a constitutional void, calling instead for a careful, process-driven approach.
Speaking to the media after paying respects at the grave of former President Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of Jubo Dal's 46th founding anniversary, Fakhrul remarked, “Decisions impacting the Presidency must be considered thoughtfully to avoid a constitutional crisis." Responding to questions about the BNP’s stance on the President's removal following recent student protests, he clarified, "The matter will be discussed at BNP's highest forum, and our official position will be shared post-discussion."
Emphasizing the importance of national unity, Fakhrul stated, “The vision of a unified Bangladesh requires constitutional reforms focused on elections, ensuring any change reflects a collective mandate." He reiterated the BNP's call for prompt elections, stating, "Power must be transferred to a legitimate, constitutionally elected body."
The BNP leader further underscored the party’s dedication to upholding freedom, describing their opposition to the current government as a "continued struggle" and recalling what he described as the nation's regained freedoms in the recent mass movements.
Jubo Dal leaders, including President Monayem Munna, General Secretary Nurul Islam Noyon, and several senior BNP members, accompanied Fakhrul at the event.
