Natore, Jan 03 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has asserted that the upcoming national election is beyond the control of the ruling Awami League. Addressing the district Jamaat workers' conference at Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula Government College grounds in Natore on Friday morning, he accused the ruling party of undermining the electoral process and criticised its governance.

"We have not forgotten the atrocities they committed while holding power illegally," Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said. "They don't believe in elections, so what elections are they after all?"

During his speech, the Jamaat chief emphasised the party's opposition to "discrimination, extortion, encroachment, corruption, bribery, and misrule." He urged the interim government to prioritise addressing the needs of the injured in the student movement and stabilising commodity prices.

Dr. Rahman highlighted Jamaat's vision of a non-discriminatory and humane society. He stated, "Jamaat-e-Islami seeks people's prayers, love, and advice to build an equal Bangladesh. Successive governments since independence have failed to curb corruption and irregularities."

Reflecting on the sacrifices made during the July-August uprising, he added, "People gave their lives for a society free from discrimination. Jamaat-e-Islami remains committed to this vision."

He also stressed the importance of Bangladesh's sovereignty in international relations, stating, "We want friends abroad, not masters. This friendship must be based on equality. Bangladesh will stand with its head held high, and no conspiracy against the nation will be tolerated."

The conference attracted party members and supporters, with discussions centred on Jamaat's future plans and preparations for a fair election under an interim government.
