Khulna, Aug 12 (V7N) – Police have filed a treason case in Sonadanga police station, Khulna, against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and five other leaders of the Awami League, over allegations of conspiring to overthrow the interim government. The case was lodged on Monday by SI Bidhhan Chandra Roy of the Metropolitan Intelligence Branch (MIB), and confirmed by OC Shafiqul Islam of Sonadanga Model Police Station.

Accused in the case include:

Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister;

Advocate M.M. Mujibur Rahman, Vice President of Khulna District Awami League;

Sheikh Helal Uddin, former MP and Hasina’s cousin;

Sheikh Salauddin Jewel;

S.M. Kamal Hossain; and

Advocate Parvez Alam Khan.

An additional 30–40 unidentified individuals were also named as co-conspirators.

According to the FIR, the case originates from a suspicious arrest on April 22 of AL leader M.M. Mujibur Rahman in Moylapota area of Khulna City. After examining his mobile phone data, police believe several WhatsApp, Telegram, and Zoom groups—such as “Rokhada Upazila Awami League,” “Bangabandhur Bangladesh,” “Bijoy Ekatta,” and “Joy Bangla Amar Pran”—were being used to organize a plan to overthrow the interim administration.

Police further revealed that a formal request for treason prosecution was sent via the Khulna Metropolitan Police to the District Commissioner, who forwarded it to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Approval from KMP was granted on August 4. As a result, a case naming six leaders and 46 total accused, including anonymous ones, was officially filed at Sonadanga Police Station on Monday.

Authorities are now investigating the extent of coordination among the accused and the nature of the conspiracy. Further developments will follow as the investigation proceeds.
