PABNA, March 29, (V7N) — Masudul Haque Masud, a Central Youth Party leader and BNP candidate for the Pabna-1 constituency, declared his firm stance against those who refuse to acknowledge the legacy of Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971.
"We want to tell those who are trying to impose the Awami fascist ideology of July-August 2024 to stay where they are. We also do not accept those who do not accept '71," Masud stated at a pre-prayer and iftar gathering at Santhia Pilot High School in Pabna on Saturday evening.
During the event, Masud also expressed his frustration with the aftermath of the July-August 2024 student protests, which played a crucial role in the downfall of the previous Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.
"For the past 17 years, thousands of BNP, Jubo Dal, and Chhatra Dal activists have faced torture, enforced disappearances, and murder under Awami fascism. We actively participated in the July-August movement—not just as supporters but as leaders," he asserted.
Masud criticized the current generation of student activists, questioning their motives post-protests. "First, they only understood quotas, and now they only care about commissions. We don’t understand what kind of reforms they are demanding," he added.
The event also included prayers for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who has been battling health issues.
Among the notable attendees were Upazila BNP Joint Convener Mir Nazmul Bari Nahid, Municipal BNP Convener Sirajul Islam Bande, Member Secretary Sirajul Islam Siraj, Upazila Jubo Dal Convener Elias Ahmed Biplob, Joint Convener Monirul Islam Raja, Member Secretary Mizanur Rahman Babul, and other BNP-affiliated leaders.
The BNP, now seeking to consolidate power following the departure of the Awami League government in August 2024, continues to push its narrative against the previous administration while navigating the political transition under the interim government.
