Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday criticized the interim government’s initiative to rapidly pass two key laws, calling the move potentially politically motivated. In a statement issued on November 28, he voiced concerns that these actions could hinder the democratic process ahead of the upcoming national elections.
According to Fakhrul, the two laws in question are the amended Police Commission Act and the NGO-related law. He claimed that reliable sources indicate the government is attempting to enact these laws hurriedly without seeking public mandate, raising suspicions of ulterior motives.
Fakhrul emphasized that passing such important legislation in a rush, without broader consultation or legislative debate, would be inappropriate. He argued that these laws should ideally be enacted through proper deliberation in the next national parliament to ensure transparency, accountability, and public acceptance.
The BNP leader also urged the government to refrain from taking such steps at this critical time, warning that hasty implementation could disrupt the democratic transition and raise political tensions. He called on authorities to prioritize inclusive dialogue and public participation in law-making processes, particularly on issues with significant national impact.
