Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N) — Cyclone ‘Detwah’, currently located in the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lanka coast, is expected to move further north-northwestwards, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Friday.

At 12 noon, the cyclone was reported:

  • 1,940 km southwest of Chittagong seaport

  • 1,885 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar seaport

  • 1,820 km southwest of Mongla seaport

  • 1,820 km southwest of Payra seaport

The BMD’s special bulletin (Serial No. 6) stated that the maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is 62 km/h, increasing up to 88 km/h in gusts or squalls. The sea is reported to be very rough near the cyclone center.

As a precaution, the Meteorological Department has ordered four major seaports—Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra—to display distant warning signal number 2. Additionally, fishing boats and trawlers have been prohibited from venturing into the deep sea until further notice.

Authorities have urged all maritime operators to remain vigilant and follow official advisories as the cyclone progresses.
