Dhaka, Dec 29 (V7N) - Azad Khan Vashani, grandson of the prominent people’s leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and chief coordinator of the Krisoks’ wing of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has announced his resignation from the party, citing ideological concerns and perceived lack of commitment to grassroots politics.
Vashani made the announcement late Sunday night through a post on his Facebook account. In his statement, he said he joined the NCP with high hopes, inspired by the leadership of young activists involved in the July People’s Uprising and motivated by the struggle to build a new Bangladesh, free from decades of oppression and inequality. He viewed the party as a continuation of the unfinished fight of the Liberation War.
He added that he initially joined the National Citizens Committee and later the NCP, taking responsibility as the chief coordinator of the party’s farmers’ wing, guided by Maulana Bhashani’s ideals of people-centered politics, anti-imperialism, and social justice.
However, Vashani expressed disappointment over what he described as the party’s failure to meet the historical responsibilities of rebuilding Bangladesh, the lack of genuine empathy and dedication towards the people, and the absence of expected success in establishing a new political framework and independent identity.
He stated that, despite remaining less active for some time, he continued to wish for the party’s success, but under the present circumstances, adherence to the historical responsibility of the Liberation War, the July Uprising, and Bhashani’s political ideals became his priority. In alignment with these principles, he has formally severed his ties with the NCP.
Vashani concluded by seeking forgiveness from anyone who may have been hurt during his brief tenure with the party and extended his best wishes to the young activists, hoping they continue their struggle for a people-centered state on the right path.
Earlier, on September 6 this year, the NCP had approved the formation of a preparatory committee for the Krisoks’ wing, appointing Azad Khan Vashani as the chief coordinator under the party’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patowary.
This resignation highlights growing internal dissent within the NCP as the party navigates its post-uprising role and ideological positioning in Bangladesh’s evolving political landscape.
