The Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, announced on Monday that the Awami League Working Committee has chosen not to support candidates wearing the party's electoral symbol in the upazila elections.
Following the party's working committee meeting at Gono Bhaban on Monday, he gave a briefing to the media.
The party's local nomination board and parliamentary nomination board will meet jointly to formalize the working committee's decision. The AL leader stated that the working committee's conclusion will be respected.
"All eight divisional committees of our party have been called to Dhaka and asked to solve the rift among the leaders and activists of the independent candidates and party candidates centring the 12th parliamentary election," he said.
After the timetable is announced, Quader added, the party's Parliamentary Nomination Board will convene to decide whether to nominate candidates for reserved women's seats.
