Bangladesh will need some time before the next election can take place, according to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who made the statement after a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus this afternoon (12 August).

"We have given the interim government that time until elections can be held," Fakhrul told reporters following the meeting.

The BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, arrived at the state guest house Jamuna, where the meeting commenced around 4:00 pm. The party's standing committee members, including Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Mirza Abbas, Syed Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Moyeen Khan, were also in attendance.

BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan informed the press earlier that Dr. Yunus had invited the party delegation for the discussion.

Simultaneously, another meeting began at 5:00 pm with a 10-member delegation led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.

Previously, on 9 August, Fakhrul urged the public to remain vigilant, warning that the ousted Awami League, which was removed following a student-led movement, was now active with a blueprint for revenge. In a statement, Fakhrul mentioned that reliable sources indicated that the deposed regime and its allies were plotting to retaliate against the interim government and the victorious students.

Fakhrul also noted that social media was being used to unfairly blame all democratic political forces, including BNP, for various heinous crimes.
