Dhaka, Aug 26 (V7N) - On Monday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed dissatisfaction with Chief Adviser Dr. Mohammad Yunus' national address, criticizing it for lacking a clear roadmap for the country's transition to democracy.

During a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club, held to mark the 9th death anniversary of Kazi Zafar Ahmed, Fakhrul voiced concerns about the interim government's approach. He noted that while Dr. Yunus mentioned some reforms, he did not provide a concrete plan for moving toward democracy.

Fakhrul hoped the interim government would soon begin talks with political parties to determine the timeline for the national election and necessary state reforms. He stressed the need for a clear and actionable roadmap, which was missing from Dr. Yunus' speech.

The Chief Adviser had earlier assured that necessary reforms in administration, judiciary, and election systems would precede a free and fair election. However, he also stated that the timing of the election would be a political decision and dependent on public determination.

Fakhrul called for patience and caution, emphasizing the BNP’s willingness to provide a reasonable timeframe for organizing a fair election. He expressed that the public would not accept a return to past conditions where democratic rights were suppressed.

Fakhrul commended Dr. Yunus’ commitment to avoiding a police state and ensuring justice for extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances. He urged the withdrawal of false cases filed against BNP leaders by the previous regime and supported the Chief Adviser’s call for police reform.

He also highlighted recent efforts by students and the public to counter disruptive actions by Ansar members, urging vigilance against attempts to undermine the people's victory.

Fakhrul advised various aggrieved groups to exercise patience and avoid disrupting administrative functions. He also cautioned students to follow proper procedures for addressing grievances with teachers and called for the removal of officials who supported the previous regime’s oppressive actions.
