Dhaka, Sep 23 (V7N) – BNP's acting chairperson, Tarique Rahman, expressed his party's desire to collaborate with all democratic political entities to rebuild Bangladesh, contingent upon public support. He made these remarks during a virtual address at a public rally organized by the BNP’s Kishoreganj district unit on Monday.

Tarique highlighted the sacrifices made over 17 years to end the autocratic rule, stating, "Thousands have lost their lives in this struggle. Now, we aim to rebuild the nation with the political forces that were part of this movement."

Recalling the sacrifices of the martyrs from the July-August uprising, he said, "Over a thousand people gave their lives fighting for their rights. Despite efforts to suppress their demands, the people stood firm, and we must honor their sacrifices by striving for an economically independent Bangladesh."

Tarique also addressed the challenges posed by remnants of the autocratic regime, emphasizing, "Though the dictatorship has fallen, its influence remains. We must ensure that the sacrifices of millions are not in vain."

He called for the establishment of a government truly accountable to the people, asserting, "Fair elections are essential to form a government chosen by the people, ensuring accountability and promoting national development."

Tarique pledged to introduce a "family card" system if BNP comes to power, which would provide every household, particularly in rural areas, with a card registered under the family’s mother or housewife. This initiative, he said, aims to eliminate hunger if sustained over the years.

Nazrul Islam Khan, BNP Standing Committee member, echoed Tarique’s call for a government elected by the people, declaring, "Democracy will return to Bangladesh through the leadership of BNP, Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman." He further emphasized the need for justice for those martyred during the long struggle against oppressive regimes.

The event was chaired by District BNP President Shariful Alam, with notable speakers including BNP Chairperson's Advisor Fazlur Rahman and Joint Secretary General Imran Sahel Prince.
