Nov 22, (V7N) - Jannik Sinner played a pivotal role in Italy's 2-1 victory over Argentina on Thursday, securing their place in the Davis Cup semi-finals. The world number one triumphed in both singles and doubles, helping Italy reach their third consecutive semi-final. Sinner dispatched Argentina’s Sebastian Baez 6-2, 6-1, while Francisco Cerundolo defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1 in the opening singles match. The decisive doubles saw Sinner and Matteo Berrettini overcome Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez 6-4, 7-5, with Sinner crediting Berrettini's stellar performance for their success.

Italy, who won the Davis Cup last year, are favorites to defend their title. Sinner expressed satisfaction with his performance, particularly after the ATP Finals, where he had no time to adapt to the court conditions in the Davis Cup. He also acknowledged the confidence Berrettini gave him on court.

In the other quarter-final, Australia triumphed 2-1 over the United States. Thanasi Kokkinakis delivered a thrilling tie-break victory over Ben Shelton, while Taylor Fritz leveled the tie by beating Alex de Minaur. Australia's doubles team, Matthew Ebden and Jordan Thompson, sealed the win by defeating Shelton and Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-4. Despite the strong showing from the U.S., Australia will now face Italy in a repeat of last year's final, with both teams eager to secure victory.

The other semi-final will see the Netherlands take on Germany after their win over Spain.
