LONDON, Jan 25, (V7N) – Pep Guardiola remains confident that Manchester City will return stronger next season despite their struggles in the current campaign. Following an unprecedented streak of four consecutive Premier League titles, City now sit 12 points behind leaders Liverpool and are in danger of early elimination from the Champions League.
City’s recent form includes a disheartening 4-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, where they squandered a two-goal lead in the Champions League. With a critical league match against Chelsea looming on Saturday and a must-win Champions League clash against Club Brugge on Wednesday, the pressure is mounting.
Guardiola, who has secured 18 trophies since his arrival in 2016, acknowledged the challenges but refused to lose faith in his squad:
"We are not the best positioned in the circumstances, absolutely. I'm not stupid enough to not know our standards and level. Still, I believe they are a fantastic group of players, as we have proven in seven, eight, nine years."
Despite this season’s struggles, Guardiola promised a strong comeback:
"For two months of bad results, I'm not going to change my opinion. Still, next season we'll be back, really."
City’s fate in the Champions League hangs by a thread, but Guardiola maintained perspective:
"Many big clubs, like Chelsea right now, are not in the Champions League. (Manchester) United are not in the Champions League. It can happen to us, definitely, not being there."
Guardiola’s defiance highlights his long-term vision for City, even in the face of temporary setbacks. With key games on the horizon, City’s focus will be on securing a top-four finish in the Premier League and salvaging their European campaign, ensuring they remain contenders for future success.
