Washington, D.C., Jan 23, (V7N) - On President Donald Trump's first full day in office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a large-scale operation, arresting 308 illegal immigrants. The operation, which took place on Tuesday, January 20th, was part of a broader initiative aimed at targeting individuals with serious criminal records.
According to Border Czar Tom Homan, many of the arrested individuals were accused of violent crimes, including murder and child abuse. The operation highlights the continued efforts of the Trump administration to enforce stricter immigration laws and prioritize the removal of individuals who have committed serious offenses.
“Many of those arrested had long criminal histories and were previously deported but re-entered the country illegally,” Homan stated during a press briefing. The operation focused on individuals who posed a threat to public safety.
ICE agents carried out the arrests in various locations across the U.S. As part of the enforcement actions, the arrested individuals will face legal proceedings, and authorities have vowed to continue their focus on removing illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds.
The operation came shortly after President Trump's inauguration and was seen as a continuation of his administration's strong stance on immigration enforcement. The president has frequently criticized sanctuary cities and vowed to crack down on illegal immigration.
In addition to the arrests, ICE officials have warned that the operation marks the beginning of a series of planned enforcement actions aimed at protecting American communities from individuals involved in violent crimes.
