Washington, Feb 26, (V7N) — The White House confirmed on Tuesday that Amy Gleason is the acting administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a position that had previously been kept secret. Gleason, a former official at the U.S. Digital Service, was named to the role following multiple inquiries about the leadership of DOGE during a White House press briefing.
Although Elon Musk was officially named head of DOGE by President Trump in November, the White House clarified last week in a court filing that Musk does not hold a formal position within the department but instead serves as a senior advisor to the president. The filing also stated that Musk is not an employee of DOGE.
Gleason, who has a background in health care technology, worked at the U.S. Digital Service from 2018 to 2021. Afterward, she served as chief product officer at Russell Street Ventures, a venture capital firm. She has also recently held a senior advisory role within the Digital Service.
Despite not being formally in charge of DOGE, Musk's role as a senior advisor to the president has continued to draw attention, particularly in light of a lawsuit challenging his authority within the administration. The White House has maintained that Musk oversees DOGE in his advisory capacity.
In a recent speech, President Trump reiterated that he had appointed Musk to lead the newly formed department.
