Washington, D.C. June 12 (V7N) – President Donald Trump on Wednesday unveiled a new website, TrumpCard.gov, for his controversial "golden visa" program, a planned $5 million U.S. residency permit. He announced that the waiting list for the high-priced visa is now open, claiming a surge of interest from potential applicants.
"Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World," Trump wrote in a social media post, promoting the new initiative.
The President first showcased a golden prototype of the visa, emblazoned with his face, aboard Air Force One in April, promising its availability "in less than two weeks." While the visas themselves are not yet formally available, the newly launched website allows interested parties to submit their name, desired visa type, and email address under a prominent header declaring, "The Trump Card is Coming."
Trump has previously stated that this new visa, a high-value version of the traditional green card, would attract "job creators" and could contribute to reducing the U.S. national deficit. He suggested in February that his administration hoped to sell "maybe a million" of these cards and did not rule out the eligibility of Russian oligarchs. He has also indicated that the "Trump Card" would provide a pathway to highly sought-after U.S. citizenship.
The announcement arrives amidst a backdrop of ramped-up deportation raids across the country, which have sparked protests and drawn ongoing lawsuits and accusations of human rights violations against the Trump administration's broader anti-immigration policies.
Critics of the "golden visa" program express concerns about its potential to allow wealthy individuals to effectively "buy" their way into the U.S., potentially circumventing traditional immigration processes and raising questions about fairness and national security. The program is also seen by some as a stark contrast to the administration's aggressive measures against undocumented immigrants.
