Tehran, June 13 (V7N) — The occupying Israeli army has launched multiple airstrikes targeting nuclear and military installations in and around Tehran, Iran’s capital, resulting in the death of Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Iran’s army chief and highest-ranking military officer.
Iranian state television confirmed Bagheri’s death on Friday. This marks him as the second-most senior military leader killed in an Israeli attack.
Simultaneously, Hossein Salami, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was also killed during the strikes. The Israeli air assault struck the IRGC General Command headquarters located on Piruzi Street in eastern Tehran, where flames and smoke were reported billowing.
According to reports from AFP, the attacks injured at least 50 people, including women and children.
This operation, dubbed 'Operation Rising Lion' by Israel, has so far included five separate strikes on various targets, including military bases, nuclear research facilities, and residential areas within Tehran and other parts of Iran.
The attacks have significantly escalated tensions in the region, with Iran pledging a harsh response to Israel’s aggression.
