Naples, June 12 (V7N) – Belgian superstar Kevin De Bruyne has officially joined Serie A champions Napoli, the club once graced by the legendary Diego Maradona. The club confirmed the signing of the Manchester City midfielder on a two-year deal, with an option to extend for an additional year.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis made the announcement on social media on Thursday (June 12), expressing excitement over bringing one of Europe’s finest midfielders to the Italian giants. De Bruyne is set to reunite with his Belgian national teammate Romelu Lukaku at the club.
After a glittering 10-year spell at Manchester City, where he secured 19 major trophies—including six Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title—De Bruyne joins Napoli as a free agent following the expiration of his contract.
De Bruyne’s time at City also saw him win the Premier League Player of the Season award twice, cementing his reputation as one of the world’s top playmakers.
It is noteworthy that Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire had previously made an offer for De Bruyne, but the midfielder opted to continue his European career in Italy instead.
With De Bruyne and Lukaku now joining forces in Naples, Napoli’s ambitions for domestic and European success look set to grow even stronger in the coming seasons.
