New Delhi, Dec 24 (V7N)- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched the heaviest and largest satellite ever placed into low Earth orbit, marking a major milestone in India’s space capabilities.

According to a report by Gulf News, the satellite was launched on Wednesday using ISRO’s heavy-lift rocket LVM-3M-6, developed with indigenous technology. The launch took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

The rocket carried the BlueBird Block-II satellite, a commercial communications satellite built by a US-based company. Weighing more than 6,000 kilograms, it is the largest commercial communications satellite ever launched by ISRO on the LVM-3 platform.

Officials said the satellite will be used to provide 24-hour high-speed cellular broadband services globally, enhancing connectivity in remote and underserved regions around the world.

The LVM-3 rocket—formerly known as Gaganyaan Launch Vehicle (GSLV Mk III)—has previously demonstrated its reliability by successfully launching major missions, including Chandrayaan-2, Chandrayaan-3, and multiple OneWeb satellite missions.

This latest launch further strengthens ISRO’s position as a reliable and cost-effective global launch service provider, particularly in the growing commercial satellite market.
