BEIRUT, Feb 16, 2026 (V7N) - Lebanon said an Israeli drone strike on Sunday near the Syrian border killed four people, as Israel confirmed it had targeted operatives from Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad.
The state-run National News Agency reported the strike hit a car in Majdal Anjar, with Lebanon’s health ministry confirming four bodies were found inside. The Israeli military said it had struck “Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists.”
It appeared to be the first Israeli strike in Lebanon claimed against Islamic Jihad since the November 2024 truce aimed at ending hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. Israel has continued regular strikes in Lebanon, usually targeting Hezbollah but occasionally hitting its Palestinian allies.
Islamic Jihad fighters were among those killed during clashes between Israel and Hezbollah that erupted in October 2023 amid the Gaza war. More than 370 people have been killed by Israeli fire in Lebanon since the ceasefire, according to health ministry figures.
In January, the Lebanese army announced completion of the first phase of a government plan to disarm Hezbollah near the Israeli border. Some Palestinian factions have also handed over weapons in refugee camps, but Hamas and Islamic Jihad have not announced plans to disarm.
