SEOUL, Apr 14 (V7N) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally oversaw new tests of strategic cruise missiles and anti‑warship missiles launched from a naval destroyer, state media reported Tuesday.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the tests took place Sunday and are the latest in a series of missile launches by the nuclear‑armed state.
-
Two strategic cruise missiles flew for around 7,900 seconds (over two hours).
-
The anti‑warship missiles flew for nearly 2,000 seconds (33 minutes).
KCNA said the missiles struck their targets with “ultra‑precision hit accuracy” over the West Sea of Korea (Yellow Sea).
The launches were conducted from the Choe Hyon, one of two 5,000‑ton destroyers introduced last year as part of Kim’s push to expand naval capabilities. State media released photos showing a missile in its initial flight stage and Kim observing the test alongside naval officials.
KCNA added that Kim was briefed on plans for weapon systems of two more destroyers under construction and “made an important conclusion.” He expressed “great satisfaction” with the strengthened preparedness of the army’s strategic action, reiterating that bolstering the nuclear deterrent remains the country’s “most important priority task.”
