In a thrilling match at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj, Brothers Union Club achieved their maiden win in the ABG Bangladesh Premier League football, defeating Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club with a scoreline of 3-2 goals.
The match saw Nigerian-born Bangladeshi midfielder Eleta Kingsley, midfielder Mohsin Ahmed, and Md Rabby Hossen Rahul each scoring a goal for Brothers Union Club, leading the first half by 1-0 goals. Brazilian midfielder Higor Leite and Uzbek midfielder Shakhzod Shaymanov scored one goal each for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Kingsley opened the scoring for Brothers Union Club in the 45+1st minute, breaking the deadlock. After halftime, Higor equalized for Sheikh Jamal with a spot kick in the 72nd minute, followed by Shakhzod's goal in the 74th minute, putting Sheikh Jamal in the lead.
However, Mohsin leveled the score for Brothers Union Club in the 84th minute, and Rabby sealed the victory with the third goal in the 89th minute.
With this win, Brothers Union Club earned six points from 14 matches, while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club maintained their 15 points from the same number of matches.
In their earlier encounter in the first phase, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club had defeated Brothers Union Club with a 2-0 scoreline at Rajshahi District Stadium.
Upcoming matches in the league include Bangladesh Police Football Club versus Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra against Fortis Football Club, and league leaders Bashundhara Kings facing Abahani Limited, Dhaka. These matches will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at different venues across the country.
