A forty-six-year-old man from close to Udine who verbally attacked AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan based on his race has been permanently banned by Udinese Calcio, in a daring move to address racism in volleyball. To make it abundantly evident that racism has no place in football or society, the club underlined the need for such strict measures.

Mike Maignan, who has been a target of racial abuse before, challenged football authorities to take decisive action, warning that inaction would make them complicit. In response to this incident, Udinese has taken a proactive stance by not only banning the identified offender but also vowing to continue efforts to identify and punish others involved in the incident.
