Dhaka, Jan 13 (V7N) —The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has instructed all stakeholders at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) to implement precautionary measures against the spread of human metapneumovirus (HMPV).
This directive was issued on Monday by Kamrul Islam, executive director of Dhaka airport.
The letter issued by CAAB reassured the public that there is no immediate cause for alarm regarding an HMPV outbreak.
It emphasized that maintaining vigilance and following preventive protocols can significantly mitigate the virus’s transmission.
In alignment with the guidance of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), all stakeholders at the airport have been urged to adopt the necessary precautions.
The instructions to stakeholders are as follows: encourage passengers, airport staff, and visitors to wear face masks and use hand sanitizers throughout the airport.
Any signs or symptoms of HMPV, such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, should be promptly reported to the airport's health department.
For airlines, the directives include implementing preventative measures at the point of origin, particularly for flights arriving from regions of concern.
Airlines are also required to notify the airport's health unit immediately if any passengers exhibit symptoms or if there is a suspected case aboard.
Ensuring that both cabin crew and passengers are aware of these health protocols is also a priority.
Healthcare providers at the airport are instructed to conduct health checks on passengers showing symptoms of the virus.
The letter further encourages all stakeholders to collaborate in disseminating information and ensuring that these preventive measures are effectively enforced.
HMPV typically causes respiratory symptoms akin to the flu, which tend to resolve within two-five days.
CAAB urged the public to remain calm, stay informed, and adhere to health guidelines to safeguard public health.
