Dhaka, Jun 06 (V7N) — As the joyous celebration of Eid-ul-Azha brings an abundance of delicious food, health experts are urging the public to maintain moderation — especially when it comes to consuming meat and rich, fatty foods.

Nutritionists caution that overeating during Eid can lead to a host of health problems including constipation, high blood pressure, and digestive discomfort. This is particularly true for those who already suffer from chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and high cholesterol.

Key Guidelines to Stay Healthy This Eid:

  • Eat in Moderation: Whether at home or at parties, avoid filling your plate with everything available. Choose smaller portions and savor your food slowly.

  • Limit Fatty Foods: Excess red meat — such as beef, mutton, and buffalo — is high in protein and fat, and can increase the risk of stroke, diabetes, and heart problems.

  • Be Cautious with Sweets and Rice Dishes: Diabetic patients should strictly avoid sugary treats and eat less of carbohydrate-rich foods like pulao and biryani.

  • Elderly and Middle-Aged Individuals: Even without pre-existing conditions, this age group must be especially careful with their intake during Eid. Overeating can cause bloating, discomfort, and even chest pain.

  • Avoid Dairy if You Have IBS: People with IBS are advised to stay away from dairy products, which can trigger flare-ups.

  • Hydration Habits: Refrain from drinking water during meals. Instead, drink water at least one hour after eating to support better digestion.

  • Do Not Sleep Immediately After Eating: Wait at least two hours after dinner before going to bed to avoid indigestion and discomfort.

Incorporate Physical Activity:

After indulging in Eid delicacies, light exercise or walking for 15 to 20 minutes can help reduce calorie buildup and aid digestion. Experts emphasize that regular physical activity should be a lifelong habit, not limited to festival times.

“Health is the root of all happiness,” doctors remind. “Celebrate Eid, but make wise choices — your body will thank you.”

By staying mindful about food and embracing a healthy lifestyle, everyone can enjoy the festivities of Eid-ul-Azha without compromising their well-being.
