Dhaka, Oct 10 (V7N) – Bangladesh joined the global observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Friday (October 10), highlighting the theme ‘Screening Saves Lives’. To mark the day, the Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum organized an awareness rally in front of the National Press Club in the capital.

Speaking at the event, the organization’s founder and chief coordinator, Professor Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukder Raskin, said that around 13,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Bangladesh, and about 7,000 die from the disease due to late detection and lack of awareness.

He emphasized that regular screening and early diagnosis can significantly reduce fatalities. “Screening facilities are available in nearly 500 government hospitals across the country. People should not hesitate or feel ashamed — awareness and early action can save lives,” he said.

Dr. Syed Md. Akram Hossain, a member of the Health Reform Commission, stressed the importance of vigilance and regular check-ups. He mentioned that the commission has recommended including complex cancer cases under health insurance coverage and reducing the cost of essential medicines to ensure better treatment accessibility.

Breast Cancer Awareness Day is observed worldwide on October 10 each year to raise awareness, promote screening, and encourage early detection — all vital steps in saving lives.
