Nov 28, (V7N) - Donald Trump's incoming administration is launching an ambitious initiative to streamline federal operations, with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy leading the charge under the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). While not an official federal agency, DOGE is described as a volunteer commission aimed at cutting federal spending and regulations.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), and Vivek Ramaswamy, entrepreneur and former presidential candidate, will meet Republican lawmakers next Thursday to discuss reform strategies. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced the meeting, emphasizing the need for regulatory reductions and cost-saving measures in line with Trump’s vision for “limited government.”

Musk and Ramaswamy claim their reforms could save $2 trillion, though experts caution such savings would require significant cuts to essential services like healthcare, education, or infrastructure. Critics argue the plan risks undermining crucial programs that benefit Americans.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Musk and Ramaswamy positioned themselves as "entrepreneurs, not politicians", pledging to identify inefficiencies without holding federal titles or salaries. Their proposals focus on deregulation, administrative reductions, and eliminating perceived waste.

The initiative is supported by a new House subcommittee, chaired by far-right Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has targeted government programs she deems wasteful. Speaking to Fox News, Greene criticized funding for projects like NPR, which she called "Democrat propaganda," and international aid programs such as "sex apps in Malaysia" and "toilets in Africa."

While Trump's initiative resonates with conservatives advocating for smaller government, it faces skepticism about its feasibility and potential impact on vulnerable populations. Any significant cuts would likely spark partisan debate, especially regarding programs tied to healthcare, social security, and education.

The initiative underscores Trump’s effort to align his administration with his campaign promise to overhaul Washington, but its success will depend on navigating complex political, legal, and public opposition.
